Some fans found it controversial as Messi celebrated the second Inter Miami goal in front of Atlas FC attacker Matias Coccaro . At first, the second goal was ruled offside, but a VAR check led to the goal being given.

Chase Stadium exploded with joy along with Messi and the rest of the Inter Miami players as the team gained three valuable points. Many noticed Messi pointing and screaming at Coccaro after the Inter Miami goal was given.

Messi was also seen celebrating after the final whistle, and a brawl between players erupted after the game. Although the celebration appeared disrespectful to many, Messi did apologize, according to Coccaro.

Lionel Messi Regrets Celebration Over Atlas Player

After the game, Messi appeared to hug Coccaro with a smile on his face. He even gave his shirt to the Uruguayan striker, and the Atlas player confirmed that Messi apologized for the controversial celebration done against him.

Coccaro then admits that the Messi celebration may have been done for his celebration towards Inter Miami fans after Atlas equalized in the 80th minute.

Matias Coccaro: "After we [Atlas] scored the equalizer, I started to motivate my teammates, we were looking for the second goal, and that's why I celebrated that way, but then Inter Miami scored again, and Messi came and celebrated right in my face, full of emotions. And what was I supposed to say? I had to stay silent... I mean, he's the best in history, you can't respond to him (laughs)."
