Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo no longer play in the league against each other, but the two continue to break records and make history with their teams.
Messi and Argentina have finished playing a friendly match against Puerto Rico at Inter Miami's Chase Stadium to prepare for the 2026 World Cup.
Argentina showed their dominance with a 6-0 win over Puerto Rico. Messi did not score a goal, but he did provide two assists in the match: one for Gonzalo Montiel in the first half and the other for Lautaro Martinez in the second half.
The two assists make Messi the only player to reach 60 assists in the history of international football.
He surpassed Neymar for Brazil and Landon Donovan for the USMNT, who were both on 58 assists with their respective national teams. Messi is also two assists away from 400 career assists.

While Messi broke a playmaking record, Cristiano Ronaldo broke another goal record with his performance for Portugal earlier today in their World Cup qualifier vs Hungary. Ronaldo scored a brace for Portugal against Hungary.
With Ronaldo's two goals against Hungary, the Portuguese striker reached 40 career World Cup qualifier goals, the most of any player in football history.
He overtook Carlos Ruiz of Guatemala by one goal and is now over Lionel Messi by four goals.

Ronaldo's two goals wasnt enough for Portugal to drop points as the match against Hungary finished 2-2.
Portugal was unable to qualify for the 2026 World Cup during this international break, but a win in the next World Cup qualifier match against Ireland next month will secure a ticket to the World Cup
