Lionel Messi has made some comments that went viral quickly, especially because they were connected with a piece of data that has to do with Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Instagram account Goal compiled some statements from Messi, 38, in which he criticizes those players who become obsessed with achieving individual records over collective ones.
"Many players become obsessed with individual records. They end up forgetting the main goal, which is the success of the team. To break records, the team must first win," said the Argentine.
This generated controversy because Goal connected his words with the fact that Ronaldo, 40, has lost every title he has competed for since he signed for Saudi Arabia's Al Nassr.
"Cristiano Ronaldo has now ‘lost’ 13 out of 13 OFFICIAL TITLES since arriving at Al-Nassr after being knocked out of the Kings Cup against Al Ittihad," wrote the aforementioned account. "The last time Cristiano Ronaldo won an official club title was in 2021 with Juventus."
Messi is on track to have a historic season with Inter Miami in MLS, with the Florida club currently competing in the playoffs. This season the Argentine has recorded 39 goals and 18 assists in 44 games.
For his part, Ronaldo has only recorded seven goals and two assists, because the season in Saudi Arabia recently began. He has played nine games. Last campaign he scored 35 goals and provided four assists in 41 appearances.
Both players continue to have impressive numbers on an individual level, but the Argentine has indeed won titles with Inter Miami in less time, already adding a Leagues Cup and the Supporters Shield.
