Lisandro Martinez has released an official statement after holding talks with Manchester United’s leadership and manager Michael Carrick.

The Argentine defender sparked controversy following Tuesday’s 2-0 Champions League defeat against Atletico Madrid, publicly criticising the club’s hierarchy and technical director Jason Wilcox.

However, Martinez has now apologised for his comments, describing his meeting with senior figures as a “very positive conversation”.

Taking to Instagram on Thursday evening, he admitted that his frustration had led him to speak out at the wrong time and place.

“With this situation now behind us, we are fully focused on winning together,” Martinez concluded.

The defender also acknowledged that his public criticism had not helped the situation at Old Trafford, stressing the importance of unity during a difficult period for the club.

“Our club is at its best when we are all united, and I recognise that my words in that moment did not help with that,” he admitted.

Martinez insisted that everyone at Manchester United shares the same ambition of restoring success to Old Trafford.

“I know that every single person at Manchester United is doing everything possible to achieve our shared ambition: bringing the success that this club and its supporters deserve.”

The apology follows a turbulent two days for the Argentine, whose comments after United’s Champions League defeat raised questions about the relationship between the players and the club’s hierarchy.

Martinez had questioned the backing provided to Carrick, singling out Wilcox as United’s disappointing start to the season continued.

However, his latest statement suggests that the immediate disagreement has been addressed following discussions with the manager and senior officials.

While Martinez apologised for the timing and manner of his comments, he did not specifically address whether his concerns about the club’s hierarchy had changed.

With Carrick already facing pressure to improve results, the defender’s apology could help prevent further distractions ahead of United’s upcoming fixtures.
