Liverpool’s terrible start to the season seems to have completely derailed all their previous plans.

They had looked set over the summer, with a busy transfer window creating a real buzz about their chances to repeat last year’s title run.

That has not played out. They are struggling near the bottom of the table, behind clubs like Everton and Manchester United, and their focus has had to shift dramatically.

This is affecting how they approach transfers, too. With January coming up, fans are already starting to talk about what kind of business needs to be done.

Fabrizio Romano says Liverpool might be planning a complete reversal on their earlier approach in light of everything that’s unfolded so far.

There has been a lot of talk around the club about potential moves in January, but the feeling until recently was that any major activity would wait until summer.

The squad looked strong on paper, and there was confidence in their business over the break. But recent results have forced a rethink.

Fabrizio Romano noted that there may be a shift happening at the top level, with Liverpool now considering earlier action to address their poor form.

On the Here We Go Podcast, the transfer insider explained: “I think it’s a possibility [that Liverpool make a signing in January].

“It’s something that, maybe if you ask me this question in September or early October, the answer was probably Liverpool didn’t want to do anything else because they were very happy with their summer transfer window. They invested a lot of money.

“So Liverpool were really excited to see this team performing despite a difficult start in terms of long term.”

The journalist added: “Now obviously is already more than three months into the season. Liverpool are doing very bad and so they are considering the possibility to enter into the January transfer window with some sort of activity.

“We will see about the positions because this could depend on the next weeks. So nothing will be decided now, today, tomorrow or next week. It might take some time, some weeks, to decide maybe which position they want to cover.

“But Liverpool start considering internally the possibility to add maybe one player in the January transfer window and again, based on injuries, based on opportunities, based on the market, we will see what they want to do.”

Why this winter period is so important for Liverpool

There is a lot riding on this stretch of the campaign, especially with so many games coming up in quick succession over the festive period.

January is just around the corner, but what Liverpool do in the transfer market could depend heavily on who is actually in charge by then.

Arne Slot is already feeling the heat, and if results do not improve soon, it would not be surprising to see him gone before the end of the year.

The fans are not exactly behind him either – many are already calling for his dismissal. Until there is some clarity on his situation, any major decisions will probably have to wait.
