Manchester United are continuing to explore ways of strengthening Michael Carrick’s squad ahead of the new season, but the club know they cannot afford to hesitate in the transfer market.
With several positions still requiring reinforcement, United’s recruitment team are looking at a number of players.
The left wing remains an area the Red Devils have been looking to strengthen despite the arrival of Matheus Cunha, with Carrick keen to add greater competition and depth across his forward line.
However, United now face growing competition for one of the wide players they have admired.
Liverpool have reportedly stepped up their pursuit of Crysencio Summerville after the Dutch international enhanced his reputation with an impressive 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, putting themselves firmly into the race for the winger, as CaughtOffside reports.
According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool have already made a serious approach for the 24-year-old, whose performances over the past year have attracted widespread attention.
Manchester United have also been credited with strong interest and are understood to have entered talks with Crysencio Summerville as Carrick searches for another player capable of rotating with Cunha on the left flank.
The Dutch winger has long been admired at Old Trafford, with United identifying him as a player who could add pace, creativity and directness to the attack.
Liverpool’s interest, though, threatens to complicate matters, especially with the Merseyside club actively searching for another wide forward before the transfer window closes.
West Ham are believed to value Summerville at around £50 million, although reports have suggested that if circumstances change, particularly following relegation, offers in the region of £30 million to £40 million could become more realistic.
If Manchester United continue prioritising midfield additions before returning their full attention to attacking reinforcements, Liverpool could attempt to move quickly before more clubs formally enter the race.
Fulham have previously been linked with the Netherlands international, while reports state that Galatasaray are also exploring a move.
The Turkish champions are understood to be focusing most of their transfer budget on midfield improvements rather than attacking signings, meaning they are considering proposing a loan deal instead of committing to a permanent transfer.
Paris Saint-Germain have also emerged as another club monitoring Summerville’s situation ahead of the new campaign.
The winger’s stock has risen considerably after his performances on the international stage.
Crysencio Summerville scored two goals for the Netherlands during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, opening his account during the group-stage victory over Japan after playing 70 minutes before adding another goal as a substitute against Sweden.
Both strikes came during the group phase and further strengthened his reputation as one of the tournament’s standout attacking performers.
Manchester United remain firmly in the conversation, but with Liverpool now making what is described as a serious move and several other clubs circling, Carrick’s side may soon have to decide whether Summerville is worth accelerating their plans for before another rival wins the race.
