Liverpool Now ‘Make Contact’ for Alternative to Alexander Isak After Approach for Swede

After approaching Newcastle United over a potential £120 million deal for Alexander Isak, Liverpool appear to be looking for alternatives due to the Magpies stance over the matter. Arne Slot wants to prepare his squad as best as possible as he attempts to bring back-to-back league titles to Anfield. Now Liverpool “make contact” for Hugo Ekitike with Eintracht Frankfurt.

Liverpool Go for Hugo Ekitike Move With Eintracht Frankfurt After Alexander Isak May Stay

Reds Battle Newcastle for Striker

David Ornstein, of The Athletic, has revealed Liverpool’s recent activity regarding a move for the Frenchman. They want to bolster their attack with a new striker, as Darwin Nunez may potentially leave (though a move to Napoli is now off).

This comes at the same time as the Reds attempt to sign Isak. The Swede is reportedly their first choice, though if it is not possible to get him, they want Ekitike. This puts the Magpies in a predicament, as they want to keep their striker and sign Ekitike, but it appears that Liverpool intend to take one of the two.

The Merseyside outfit may be making contact with Frankfurt as they are giving up on an Isak move: Newcastle are strongly against selling, leading to Liverpool only communicating such interest rather than making a formal offer. However, it could also be a move to pressure the Geordies into selling their star player, as they don’t want to lose their primary summer target. Realistically, Isak may move next summer regardless, and so bringing in a replacement now may be smarter.

Either way, Liverpool are set to splash the cash: Frankfurt reportedly want more than the almost £70 million that Newcastle have already offered. Meanwhile, £120 million is being reported as a fee for a potential Isak move.
