Liverpool return to Premier League action tomorrow with the pressure still very much on Arne Slot. A narrow win away to Inter Milan in midweek, settled by a Dominik Szoboszlai penalty, offered brief relief but did little to change the wider mood. The performance was functional rather than convincing, and the scrutiny has not eased. Brighton arrive organised, confident and well-drilled, exactly the type of opponent that has exposed Liverpool’s fragility this season. Here is our Liverpool predicted lineup vs Brighton.
The win in Milan stopped the bleeding, but it did not answer many questions. Slot’s selections raised eyebrows again, most notably Curtis Jones being used on the right, a decision that spoke more to problem solving on the fly than a settled plan. Brighton will punish hesitation and imbalance, and Liverpool will need far more control than they have shown in recent league outings.
Liverpool have shifted between a 4,3,3 and a 4,2,3,1, often morphing mid-game rather than committing fully to either. In possession, Slot still wants a box midfield and a central creator operating between the lines. Out of possession, the structure has been far less convincing, with gaps opening up too easily once the press is broken.
Injuries and availability have forced constant adjustment, particularly on the right side, and that instability has fed into a broader lack of cohesion across the team.
Liverpool’s form remains uneven. The Champions League win at Inter was valuable but narrow, while league performances continue to follow a familiar pattern: good spells undermined by lapses in concentration and a failure to fully control games. Confidence feels brittle, and Brighton will sense an opportunity if Liverpool start slowly.
Cody Gakpo will be unavailable for a few weeks due to injury, whilst Jeremie Frimpong remains sidelined.
Federico Chiesa was out due to illness midweek. He is expected to be available for selection. Meanwhile, Wataru Endo is unavailable due to an ankle injury.
Alexander Isak picked up a knock midweek, but will be assessed in training to determine if he is available for selection. Giovanni Leoni is still a long term absentee.
Conor Bradley is fit again and back in contention for the right back spot.
Mohamed Salah’s situation remains unresolved, with no official confirmation on his involvement. Gakpo’s absence leaves Liverpool short of natural wide options, which could open the door for another youthful or unconventional selection.
