Liverpool Predicted Lineup vs Burnley for September 14

Liverpool travel to Turf Moor on Sunday looking to preserve their perfect start to the Premier League season. Arne Slot has nine points from nine, but the wins have hardly been routine, both Bournemouth and Newcastle erased two-goal deficits before Liverpool found late winners. Against Arsenal, control finally arrived in a narrow victory. Now comes Burnley, and the chance to show they can manage a game without inviting chaos.

How Liverpool Have Lined Up Recently

Slot has been consistent with his 4-3-3 since arriving at Anfield, even when forced into awkward adjustments. For two matches, Dominik Szoboszlai was asked to fill in at right-back, a role he handled admirably, but with Jeremie Frimpong fit again, the balance should be restored on that flank. Frimpong’s return is important not just defensively but for his combinations with Florian Wirtz, which Liverpool were keen to develop when the pair arrived in the summer.

At the heart of defence, Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté remain the first-choice pairing. Both were heavily involved during the international break but came through unscathed, which will reassure Slot after the defensive lapses seen in August. On the left, Milos Kerkez has been rotated with Andy Robertson, but the Hungarian’s energy and recovery pace give him the edge for a demanding away fixture.

In midfield, Curtis Jones’ absence changes the dynamic. Ryan Gravenberch has dropped into the holding role, providing physicality and composure under pressure. Szoboszlai is expected to return to his natural midfield slot, while Wirtz has been deployed further forward, linking with the forwards and drifting into spaces that unsettle defensive lines.

Up front, Hugo Ekitike has led the line in the early weeks. He has already shown sharp movement and pressing energy, earning a Player of the Month award. Mohamed Salah continues to be the focal point of Liverpool’s attack from the right, while Cody Gakpo has been preferred on the left for his direct running and work rate. Alexander Isak has joined for a club-record fee but is likely to be eased in, starting on the bench at Turf Moor.

Recent Form and Tactics

Liverpool’s start has been equal parts exhilarating and exasperating. They have eight goals from three games, yet twice saw two-goal cushions evaporate. Against Bournemouth, defensive disorganisation allowed the visitors to strike back before Liverpool rallied late. The trip to St James’ Park followed the same pattern,  a blistering start, a careless lull, and then a frantic recovery.

The win over Arsenal showed progress. It was tighter, more controlled, and evidence that Slot’s message about managing games is starting to land. Liverpool pressed selectively, kept possession better in the final 20 minutes, and protected their lead without major panic.

Slot’s philosophy has been clear from day one: front-foot football, vertical speed, and a relentless press. Wirtz is central to it, providing guile between the lines, while Ekitike’s pressing triggers have set the tone up front. Salah remains the difference-maker, but the addition of Frimpong should bring more variety on the right flank. The big question is whether Liverpool can sustain control once they’re ahead, something they failed to do in August.

Team News

Slot confirmed in his press conference that Jones will miss out after picking up an injury against Arsenal. Beyond that, the squad is in good shape. Frimpong has recovered and is ready to start, while internationals returned fit.

Robertson and Alexis Mac Allister are expected to be among the substitutes, offering experienced options if Liverpool need to adjust. Isak is also available, but Slot has suggested he will be given minutes from the bench rather than thrown straight into the starting XI. Conor Bradley, who impressed with Northern Ireland over the break, is another depth option, but with Frimpong fit his role is likely to be as cover.
