Liverpool flirted with disaster Tuesday when it trailed 2-0 at halftime against Villarreal, but three second half goals sent the team comfortably through to the UEFA Champions League final.
A week ago, Liverpool won 2-0 in the first leg of its semifinal against Villarreal, but that lead vanished Tuesday when Boulaye Dia and Francis Coquelin scored first half goals to tie the match, 2-2.

The second half was all Liverpool, though.
Fabinho got Liverpool back on top in the 62nd minute and then Luis Díaz and Sadio Mané put the game on ice with goals in the 67th and 74th minutes.

The other spot in the Champions League final will be decided Wednesday at 3 p.m. ET when Manchester City and Real Madrid play the second leg of the other semifinal. Last week, City won 4-3 in the highest scoring Champions League semifinal match ever.
The final is scheduled for May 28 and will be played in Saint-Denis, France.
