Liverpool have been linked with many a name both during and since the conclusion of the January transfer window, hinting at a significantly busier summer transfer window this time round.
To that end, they are currently monitoring some stars of tomorrow out in South America.
As reported by TBR Football, Liverpool are one of many Premier League clubs with scouts at the ongoing South American U20 Championship, and in particular they are monitoring Argentina and River Plate duo Agustín Ruberto and Ian Subiabre.
Ruberto is especially on the Reds’ radar, as has an enviable youth record for both club and country. For River Plate II, the 2006-born forward has scored 13 goals in 17 games, while for the Argentina U17 team his record stands at 24 goals in 31 games.
Man City and Chelsea are also closely monitoring Ruberto, whose current contract with River Plate runs until December 2027.
The other clubs who have scouts present at the U20 Sudamericana are Brighton, Bournemouth, Wolves, Nottingham Forest, Brentford, and Aston Villa.
Over the past decade, Liverpool have deservedly earned their reputation of savvy operators in the transfer market, especially when it comes to strengthening their first-team squad both with immediate-impact and project players.
Things are changing, however. Previously, Premier League clubs relied on feeder clubs from all over Europe, which served as landing spots for talent from other continents. At these landing spots, they would get their chance to show the heavyweights they could do a job for them.
While that still remains the case, Premier League have become savvier and are now scouting these up-and-coming talents directly, so much so that many of these clubs have demonstrated the ability to get a player from far off shores and get him going at the very top level right away, significantly reducing the need for middlemen clubs.
And so, Liverpool need to adapt as well. They may end up not getting Agustín Ruberto, but the fact that they have scouts monitoring players at the U20 Sudamericana is a good sign; it shows they are willing to grow and not resting on their laurels.
