Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that Barcelona prefer Liverpool star Luis Diaz over Manchester United outcast Marcus Rashford this summer. The Red Devils are pushing to sell Rashford as he is not part of the plans under manager Ruben Amorim.
We All Follow United previously covered Romano’s report that Barcelona want Rashford after their deal to sign Nico Williams collapsed. However, things have changed for the Catalan giants as they are pushing for a transfer move for Diaz right now.
However, Rashford remains an alternative for Barcelona in case the Diaz deal also collapses, as Liverpool wants to keep him. The 27-year-old has currently returned to United after his good loan spell with Premier League rivals Aston Villa last season.
However, Villa rejected the chance to sign Rashford for £40m due to his wage demands, which are unrealistically very high. However, United are willing to make a compromise and cover a percentage of Rashford’s salary to get the pure profit.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano confirmed that Barcelona prefer to sign Diaz from Liverpool over Man United outcast Rashford. He said:
“Barcelona will do their best to get Luis Diaz. If it is not going to be possible to get Luis Diaz, Barcelona are also aware of Marcus Rashford, being still an option on their list, being very keen on the move, dreaming of Barcelona move. So for sure, Barca are aware of the intentions of Marcus Rashford, very keen on the move. But Barca still wants to try again for Luis Diaz.”
United rewarded Rashford with the current lucrative contract after his success during the prolific 2023-24 season under Erik ten Hag. When United fans believed that the 27-year-old had outgrown his inconsistency while stepping into his peak years, Rashford stumbled again.
It is not just the inconsistent contribution from Rashford but his on-field attitude that has irked the Man United fanbase. New manager Ruben Amorim immediately made ruthless changes, instead of entertaining any such attitude under his reign.
After allowing Rashford to leave on a loan deal in January, the stance has not changed from Amorim’s perspective. The Portuguese boss wants the players who suit his profile and are ready to do anything to fulfil his demands. As for Rashford, he should leave his childhood club to rejuvenate his career, but the 27-year-old may need to lower his demands to achieve that.
