It was not the most convincing performance, but Liverpool still found a way to edge past Burnley thanks to a late breakthrough at Turf Moor.
Despite looking flat for much of the match, Arne Slot’s side managed to take all three points against Scott Parker’s well-organised defence.
A second-half red card left Burnley short-handed, and things got even tougher when Hannibal Majbri conceded a penalty. Mohamed Salah stepped up and converted it without fuss, shifting the match in Liverpool’s favour.
But overall, it was not a game that will have pleased fans hoping for something more entertaining.
On the defensive side, Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate did well to snuff out what few chances Burnley had on the break. However, the Liverpool standout was in midfield.
It was Ryan Gravenberch who stood out again, not just against Burnley but across all three starts this season. His performances have given Arne Slot plenty to think about and reminded everyone of his quality.
When he first arrived from Bayern Munich for £34 million, there were doubts. His early appearances under Jurgen Klopp did not inspire much confidence, and it seemed like he might struggle to find his place in the squad.
Everything changed when he moved deeper into a defensive midfield role. Suddenly, his strengths came to the forefront. He became a key part of Liverpool’s title push last season under Slot.
This form has carried over into the new campaign. Against Burnley, he looked completely in control again, showing why many rate him as one of the best in that position right now.
He completed 91% of his passes and created four chances in a match where Liverpool struggled to break Burnley down. He stepped up when creativity was lacking elsewhere.

The Dutchman also handled clearances well, and won most of his duels. Even if none of his four shots hit the target, it did not overshadow how effective he was defensively and in possession.
The fans recognised Gravenberch’s impressive display by voting him Man of the Match.
With reports linking Liverpool to Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton during the last transfer window, it is clear there is not a pressing need for him as long as the 23-year-old Dutchman remains in form.
While Wharton is seen as a promising talent, he does not offer the same level of composure and defensive awareness that Gravenberch provides.
The Dutchman still has three years left on his contract, and if he keeps performing at this level, Liverpool should do everything they can to keep him beyond that deal.
Liverpool have built their success around having reliable midfielders. Having someone like Gravenberch in that role gives them an advantage against any opponent.
