In their previous Premier League match, Liverpool lost 3-2 to Bournemouth away from home. Virgil Van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai scored in Liverpool's loss to Bournemouth last week.

During the week, Liverpool defeated Qarabag 6-0 in the Champions League at home with goals from Alexis Mac Allister, Florian Wirtz, Mohamed Salah, Hugo Ekitike, and Federico Chiesa.

Newcastle United lost 2-0 at home last week in the Premier League to Aston Villa. During the week, Newcastle drew 1-1 with PSG at the Parc des Princes, with Joe Willock scoring the equalizer.
