Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur meet on Sunday at 4:30pm. Liverpool suffered a 1–0 defeat to Galatasaray in midweek. Their last Premier League fixture also ended in defeat, a 2–1 loss at bottom-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers. Yet those results are outliers in otherwise steady form so far in 2026. Arne Slot’s side find themselves just three points behind third-placed Manchester United. Currently sitting in sixth, the Reds have the opportunity to continue their march towards Champions League qualification.
Tottenham were also beaten in the Champions League on Tuesday night. A dramatic first leg against Atlético Madrid involved a number of errors and a disastrous competition debut for goalkeeper Antonín Kinský. The result at the Metropolitano Stadium continued an awful run of form for Spurs, and saw them defeated in six consecutive matches for the first time. Igor Tudor now faces the challenge of earning points at Anfield, a venue where Spurs have historically struggled.

Goalkeeper Alisson Becker missed the Galatasaray match with a minor issue. When Arne Slot was asked if he expected the Brazilian to return against Spurs at Monday’s press conference, he replied: “I’m hopeful but that’s not to say I’m 100 per cent sure.”
Another who could return is Federico Chiesa, after he missed the Champions League clash due to illness. On his status, Slot said: “I expect he feels better now.” He added: “I think he’s able to train with us today.”
Alexander Isak suffered an injury in the first fixture against Tottenham. Slot was asked about his timeline and replied: “He’s with the rehab team and still not with the team yet.”
Promising winger Rio Ngumoha could be in line for an important role. “He’s definitely an option to start in one of the upcoming three games.”
Isak, Stefan Bajetic, Conor Bradley, Wataru Endo and Giovanni Leoni are all ruled out.
Micky van de Ven is suspended following his red card in the 3–1 defeat against Crystal Palace.
Tottenham’s injury crisis worsened in Madrid as Cristian Romero and João Palhinha suffered a clash of heads and are out for the Liverpool match. Speaking at his press conference, Igor Tudor said: “I think they will be back for sure for Nottingham Forest, maybe even for the Champions League.”
Tudor confirmed another setback: “Yves Bissouma is out, problems with the muscles.” There is also some uncertainty around Conor Gallagher’s status, Tudor said: “Conor has some fever, but he will probably be in.”
The interim head coach was asked whether he expected any returns: “Destiny Udogie is almost back. That’s all.”
Tudor did offer some insight into his potential starting lineup on Sunday. Asked whether Guglielmo Vicario would start, he confirmed: “He’ll be in the goal.”
Bissouma, Udogie, Romero, Palhinha, Dejan Kulusevski, Wilson Odobert, Ben Davies, Rodrigo Bentancur, Lucas Bergvall, James Maddison and Mohamed Kudus are all ruled out.
