Tottenham boss Thomas Frank gives positive injury updates on Randal Kolo Muani and Dominic Solanke ahead of Aston Villa clash
Tottenham Hotspur are aiming to continue their bright start to the season when they face Aston Villa at home on Sunday.
Spurs face a difficult assignment against Aston Villa, who have won their last two Premier League outings after failing to score in their opening four league fixtures. Thomas Frank’s side ended their three-game winless run in all competitions before the international break by beating Leeds United at Elland Road. So, they will be keen to make it back-to-back wins in the Premier League.
All the players have returned from international break, which wasn’t kind for Thomas Frank and the fans as a couple of Spurs stars got injured. Yves Bissouma was stretchered off while representing Mali in the big win over Madagascar on his return from knee injury, whereas Wales international Ben Davies was forced off with an injury against Belgium.
Thomas Frank has had to solely rely on Richarlison to lead Tottenham’s attack in recent weeks due to injury problems to Randal Kolo Muani and Dominic Solanke.
Randal Kolo Muani has been dealing with a dead leg since making his Spurs debut against Villarreal in the Champions League last month. Since arriving on loan from Paris Saint-Germain on summer transfer deadline day, the French forward has played just 13 minutes. On a positive note, he is edging closer to full fitness after featuring for 45 minutes in a behind-closed-doors encounter with Watford.
As for Dominic Solanke, the centre-forward underwent a minor ankle surgery earlier this month. The England international has been managing a recurring ankle injury that has troubled him for months, with his last appearance coming in the 2-0 win over Manchester City on 23 August.
Addressing the media ahead of the Aston Villa game, Frank has given an update on the duo.
“Kolo Muani has trained now with the team for two weeks. That looks positive. Dom has progressed well from the surgery. The detail is positive,” Frank was quoted by Football London.
Kolo Muani’s return from injury is a big boost for Tottenham, with Frank having to rely on Richarlison for goals. Richarlison has gone off the boil after a strong start to the season, so Kolo Muani coming back gives the Brazilian the push he requires to regain his scoring touch.
At the most, we can see Kolo Muani make a cameo appearance off the bench vs Villa on Sunday. If the Frenchman can contribute something in the Spurs attack, Frank will be pleased.
