'Loyalist' Enzo’s Premier League move on the cards after Man City announcement

Miguel Delaney has suggested that Enzo Fernandez could join Manchester City if a move to Real Madrid doesn’t work out.

Miguel Delaney’s piece for the Independent about a potential move for Enzo Fernandez to Real Madrid contains another interesting possibility.

He speculates that Man City midfielder Rodri could instead be the one to go to the Bernabeu, and that in turn would make space for Enzo at City. There looks set to be a lot of movement this summer between all three clubs, with Chelsea appointing a Real Madrid manager from last season, Manchester City a Chelsea manager from last season, and Madrid still looking for their new coach.

Enzo move to Man City could see Maresca reunion

“If the Spanish side do ultimately move for Rodri, Fernandez would instead offer an option for City. Enzo Maresca will take over from the departing Pep Guardiola, and he does have a good relationship with the Argentine,” Delaney wrote.

“Fernandez was a Maresca loyalist, and often talked him even after the Italian’s departure [from Chelsea].”

Chelsea would be “unlikely” to recoup the £100m-plus they paid for Enzo, Delaney says. Although we can’t see them selling him for less than £80m or so.

Marc Cucurella could also be sold by Chelsea if he doesn’t fit with what Xabi Alonso wants to do with the team, according to Matt Law.

Enzo Fernandez could be on his way out at Chelsea despite the arrival of Xabi Alonso, with Real Madrid keen to sign him.
