Luis Enrique has had an incredible management career so far, enjoying success at Barcelona and PSG.

During his time with the La Liga giants, Enrique won nine trophies in three years, including the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, two La Liga titles and four domestic titles.

In 2017 he left Camp Nou to join the Spanish national side before then moving to PSG in 2023.

Since his arrival in the French capital, he’s added another two Ligue 1 titles to their trophy cabinet as well as their first-ever Champions League trophy.

However, rumours began surfacing last month that he would soon be leaving PSG to become Manchester United’s next permanent manager.

After Ruben Amorim was sacked in January 2026, Michael Carrick was appointed as caretaker manager to hold the fort until the summer.

The understanding was that an elite manager would be approached and appointed for the end of the season, with Luis Enrique being one of the few linked to the role.

Now, Manchester Evening News has reported that it’s not to be as the PSG manager has turned down the United project.

The report explains that United had made Enrique one of their top targets, attempting to lure him from Paris.

However, MEN go one to say that he believes that taking over as permanent manager at Old Trafford isn’t the right move for him and is now looking at extending his stay at PSG.

It’s understood that talks are taking place to see him sign a new contract until 2030, securing his future with the Ligue 1 champions.

For now, Manchester United are enjoying the reign of Michael Carrick, having won all three games under the former midfielder since he joined last month.

As such, the club could still choose to hand him the permanent role at the end of the season, however nothing has been confirmed as of yet.
