Manchester United enjoys a transfer boost as Crystal Palace wants Strasbourg forward Emanuel Emegha to replace their star Jean-Philippe Mateta. The Red Devils are prioritising the forward position under Ruben Amorim as their current options have failed to establish themselves.
As Rasmus Hojlund’s struggle with persistent goal droughts continued, United signed Dutch forward Joshua Zirkzee as his competition last summer. However, Zirkzee has also struggled with inconsistencies and an inability to contribute frequently for Man United with goals and assists.
As United sacked Erik ten Hag and appointed Amorim, the situation became more complicated as players failed to adjust properly. The new tactical demands by Amorim proved too much for the squad that cost an astronomical figure to put together.
According to the Mirror, Palace want Strasbourg forward Emegha, potentially allowing United to sign Mateta during the summer transfer window. Palace have set a £40m price tag on their in-form French forward, who scored two sensational goals against United recently.
The Red Devils are currently 16th in the Premier League table after suffering a disastrous campaign, filled with insurmountable losses. United showed weakness in all phases of the game, as their struggling attack line failed to bail them out consistently
Amorim enjoyed great success in his former club Sporting CP, with Viktor Gyokeres playing a critical role throughout his tenure. The Swedish forward’s consistency in contribution and overall quality is something United desire from their future attacker under the Portuguese.
Mateta fits the profile perfectly and has the Premier League experience to back himself as a top striker, potentially available. The 27-year-old has made 43 appearances for Palace in all competitions this season, scoring 17 goals and providing four assists.
United are also facing financial trouble as they have to rely heavily on selling players before buying new ones. Mateta’s affordable price tag and the fact that he is currently operating in his prime are two big factors that should raise the desire of United to sign the Frenchman immediately.
