Manchester United legend Louis Saha demands that the club keep Amad Diallo amid the potential signing of Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo. Saha highlighted that captain Bruno Fernandes and Diallo are the only two players from last season’s team who are untouchable.

New United boss Ruben Amorim struggled to get the best out of the team he inherited from Erik ten Hag. The former Sporting CP manager implemented his tactical philosophy, even though the senior squad failed to adjust to his demands.

The United hierarchy have maintained their faith in Amorim despite the disastrous season, allowing him to reshape the squad accordingly. The Portuguese manager has prioritised the signing of attacking players at the early stages of the current summer transfer window.

United have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves and are actively challenging Tottenham Hotspur to sign Mbeumo during the summer. The situation puts a big question mark on Diallo’s position within the squad, as he prefers to play on the right.

Mbeumo also prefers the role of a right attacking winger, which could hamper Diallo’s steep rise in the team. Speaking to Express with BetSelect, Saha demanded that United keep Diallo amid the potential signing of Mbeumo in this window. He said:

“Nooo! No! No! If there are one or two players who should not leave, it is him and Bruno Fernandes. He is the kind of player who does not care where he plays. He has said it himself; he will play as a left-back or centre-back – he will just play.”

The former United forward also highlighted the difference between Diallo and other United attackers, berating his teammates for being too demanding despite failing to prove their worth to the team. He added:

“Some other players will say, ‘I want to play there’ or ‘I should be playing [in] this [position]’. Those players should shut up. Why? Because the result that we had last year is ridiculous.”

Saha has made a strong point, as Diallo has enjoyed a good season despite the collective struggle of the club. The Ivory Coast international made 43 appearances in all competitions for United last season, contributing 11 goals and 10 assists.

While Diallo can play in numerous different positions, Cunha and Mbeumo are also capable of doing the same thing. The three attacking players can easily co-exist unless Amorim has more attacking players in his mind, as part of the recruitment. Rest assured, United should reward Diallo instead of punishing him, while focusing on other areas of vulnerability within the team.
