After Fabrizio Romano broke the news of Manchester City completing a deal for Savio one thing has become clear. The world champions are building their squad for the future while continuing to chase more success. It has served the champions well during Pep Guardiola’s reign at the club and looks set to continue as the club seeks to continue at the top of English and European football.

Currently, Manchester City’s squad is a blend of elite young players with experienced veterans to show them the way. Players such as Kevin De Bruyne, Kyle Walker, Ederson, Rodri, Nathan Ake, Ruben Dias, Bernardo Silva and John Stones to name a few set the standards on and off the pitch. They have been through a vast array of experiences during their time at Manchester City and under manager Pep Guardiola. Their talent coupled with their experience and will to win provides the base for City’s younger players to learn the ways of the City winning machine.

But underneath them is a fantastic young core that will be the future of the world champions. Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, Julian Alvarez, Josko Gvardiol, Oscar Bobb, Rico Lewis and Jeremy Doku are all massive contributors in their own right on the pitch. But as the City veterans get on in years the hope is that the young core will step up to fill the shoes of their esteemed colleagues. The talent is there and learning from such stars of the game will show City’s younger players what is required to reach the very top. It is an underrated trait of the current City squad.

City’s squad build ensures they will remain at the top of the table

Manchester City have built their squad in a way that the next evolution of the team is playing with the current leaders at the club. It is an important element of the squad at Pep Guardiola’s disposal. While other clubs in football have seen a rise and then a fall after eras of success Manchester City is hoping to avoid a similar fate.

Manchester City do however sign experienced players when required. Summer deals for Mateo Kovacic and Matheus Nunes highlight this. With Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez departing last summer there was a need for more experience amongst Pep Guardiola’s squad. They filled that with two shrewd pieces of business.

But the deal to sign Savio indicates that the champions will continue to add some of the premier young players to their world-class squad. The  arrival of River Plate starlet Claudio Echeverri in January next year also emphasizes this fact. Their addition succeeds on two fronts with Manchester City keeping an eye on the future while continuing to chase success while they develop.
