Since arriving from Atletico Madrid in 2019, Rodri has made a massive name for himself at Manchester City.

Across the seven years, he’s made 293 appearances under Pep Guardiola, grabbing 28 goals and 32 assists from defensive midfield.

Rodri has helped The Citizens win the Champions League, four Premier League trophies, the FIFA Club World Cup and five domestic cups, picking up the Ballon d’Or for 2024 on the way.

As such, it’s no real surprise that City want to try to retain the 29-year-old who’s contract is set to end in 2027.

However, Fabrizio Romano has now given an update on the situation as City are looking to offer a new contract to Rodri.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano explained: “Rodri already has a new contract proposal into his hands from Manchester City. So Manchester City are offering a new contract to Rodri.”

He continued: “They are prepared to give him an important salary. At the moment it’s on Rodri to decide financially, personally with his family, about the project and all the rest on what he wants to do.”

However, Rodri’s decision could be set to have a massive impact on Manchester United and their midfield recruitment.

City and United are both looking to sign new midfielders in the summer, looking, as even, at the same pool of potential players.

Elliot Anderson, Sandro Tonali, and Adam Wharton are leading United’s summer shortlist, with Tonali emerging as the top contender.

However, it’s believed that the decision was made on the back of City taking the lead for Anderson.

Now, if City keep Rodri long term, it could affect how they view the pursuit of the Nottingham Forest midfielder, potentially allowing United to re-enter the frame.

However, Real Madrid are interested in Rodri, so it’s not as simple as a new contract or not when the elite La Liga side are waiting in the wings.
