Manchester City haven’t started the season how they would have hoped, and it appears there is plenty of work to do for Pep Guardiola and his team to improve. One win and two defeats from the first three games has left City with plenty to ponder during the international break. It appears they are close to bringing in a new signing, with David Ornstein at The Athletic reporting that Paris Saint-Germain are maintaining expectations that Gianluigi Donnarumma will join Manchester City on deadline day.

PSG Maintain Expectation of Gianluigi Donnarumma Deadline Day Move to Manchester City

Manchester City Improvement Needed

Donnarumma is one of the most decorated goalkeepers in football, but it became clear his time at PSG was at an end when Luis Enrique left him out of the team for the Super Cup fixture against Tottenham Hotspur. Despite looking for a goalkeeper with a “different profile,” Enrique praised the Italian goalkeeper:

“I am supported by my club and we are trying to find the best solution,” he told a news conference on Tuesday.

“It is a difficult decision. I only have praise for Donnarumma. He is one of the very best goalkeepers out there and an even better man.

“But we were looking for a different profile. It’s very difficult to take these types of decisions.”

Donnarumma to City and Ederson to Fenerbahce

If the Donnarumma deal is completed, he will replace Ederson, who has moved to Fenerbahce for a reported £12 million.

Donnarumma is a huge presence and should bring stability to a Manchester City team that doesn’t appear to be pulling in the same direction. The Italian has impressive distribution skills, which is something Guardiola desires in a goalkeeper. He looks to dominate his area, which is a huge bonus for his defenders. He is also an exceptional shot stopper, who will bring calmness to the City defence.
