Manchester City vs Newcastle United Lineups, Carabao Cup Preview

Manchester City will host Newcastle United on Wednesday, Feb. 4, at 3 p.m. ET (8 p.m. GMT) for the second leg of the 2025-26 Carabao Cup semi-finals.

The Citizens thrashed the Magpies 2-0 at St. James' Park in the first leg on Jan. 14. After a goalless first half, Man City's new signing, Antoine Semenyo, broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute. Rayan Cherki sealed the win for the Blues with a goal in the 98th minute. This win has placed City in a strong position heading into the second leg at the Etihad Stadium.

Eddie Howe's side will try to regain its grip on this situation. Newcastle won the Carabao Cup last year, but if they want to defend their title at Wembley this season, they must first make a statement comeback at City's home turf on Wednesday.

City arrives in a confident mood after their strong first-leg win. Since Jan. 14, Pep Guardiola's side has recorded two wins, two losses, and one draw in the last five games across all competitions.

Newcastle's form has been far less encouraging since their last encounter with the Blues. The Magpies have won just once in their last five matches across all competitions, while also suffering two defeats and drawing twice.

Manchester City Dealing With Several Injuries

Although City has a two-goal cushion, the second leg will be a tough challenge for Pep, as he will be without several first-team options. Rayan Cherki is doubtful for the Newcastle game after being forced off the pitch following a heavy knock during the team's 2-2 draw vs. Tottenham Hotspur.

Jeremy Doku is sidelined until mid-February with a calf injury. Josko Gvardiol is sidelined with a tibial fracture and is also set to be out. Ruben Dias, John Stones, Mateo Kovacic, and Savinho are also unavailable for Wednesday's Game.

Newcastle will also have a task in hand to manage their defense, with Emil Krafth, Fabian Schär, Jamaal Lascelles, Valentino Livramento all unavailable for Wednesday's clash at the Etihad Stadium. Joelinton is also unavailable to face Man City, as reported by ESPN.
