Manchester United 2026/27 away kit debut date officially confirmed

Manchester United supporters have already had their first glimpse of the club’s latest away strip, but they will not have to wait much longer to see it worn in action.

After unveiling the new adidas design this week, attention has quickly shifted to when Michael Carrick’s squad will first take to the pitch in the fresh colours.

That moment has now been confirmed.

Manchester United confirm away kit debut date

United’s 2026/27 away kit will make its first appearance during Friday’s pre-season clash against Rosenborg in Trondheim, as the club announced on their website.

Carrick’s side opened their summer schedule last weekend against Wrexham in Helsinki, wearing the home shirt that first debuted during the closing stages of last season.

Although United slipped to a narrow 1-0 defeat, supporters will now get their first chance to see the new royal blue strip on the pitch at the Lerkendal Stadium.

The away kit will not be a one-off appearance either.

United are also expected to wear the shirt eight days later when they face Atletico Madrid at the Strawberry Arena in Stockholm.

The new design pays tribute to one of Manchester United’s most recognisable away identities while adding a modern twist.

Built around a striking royal blue base with traditional red and white detailing, the shirt also features adidas’ classic Trefoil logo, blending football heritage with contemporary styling.

Blue has become associated with several memorable moments in Manchester United history.

The club famously wore the colour during the 1968 European Cup final, the 2009 UEFA Champions League semi-final, and the 2017 UEFA Europa League final, making it one of the Reds’ most iconic away colours.

United supporters have already seen one new strip in action this year.

The club officially introduced the 2026/27 home kit during the 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on 17 May 2026, and now the attention turns to whether the new away shirt can also become part of another memorable campaign.
