For weeks, Manchester United’s recruitment team has explored young talents who can strengthen their attack under Ruben Amorim. The club still continues to focus on youth.
Now, the search for new attacking energy has taken them to Germany. A 19-year-old from FC Köln has started to draw serious attention. According to Sport1, more than ten clubs have spoken with Said El Mala’s representatives in recent weeks.
Manchester United and Chelsea have shown strong interest, and Manchester City are also monitoring his situation closely. The winger has scored three goals in seven games so far in the Bundesliga this season. The 19-year-old has the composure to go with his maturity and incredible potential. His sharp dribbling skills and directness win over Köln supporters every week.
Both English clubs view El Mala as a long-term prospect. Under Amorim, United are building their team on high energy and flexible movement, which suits a wide forward like him. Chelsea continue to rebuild their youthful side and believe that the German youngster can develop into a consistent performer with time.
El Mala also sees the Premier League as an opportunity to test himself against top players. He believes regular football in England will help him grow faster. If he competes every week at that level, it should sharpen his technical qualities and decision-making.
Amorim relies on wide players who stretch the pitch and then cut inside to create space. In that system, El Mala can play as an inside forward or a wide winger. He fits the kind of player Amorim used at Sporting CP. The 19-year-old’s pace and quick footwork trouble defenders during counterattacks. He is pretty confident on the ball, and that can help United break down tight defences.
However, United need a defensive midfielder and a backup goalkeeper behind Senne Lammens. The club has already strengthened their attack in the summer of 2025, and should look at other areas which need urgent reinforcements.
Meanwhile, El Mala continues to show high potential. If United can agree to a reasonable deal, he could become a smart signing for the future. However, for now, United should fix other areas first before committing to another young winger. El Mala has the talent, but still needs time before becoming a regular starter.
