Manchester United block €50m Bruno Fernandes transfer

Bruno Fernandes is coming off one of the finest individual campaigns of his career, although his preparations for the new season have not gone entirely to plan.

The Portuguese midfielder enjoyed a stellar 2025/26 season, establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s standout performers and producing numbers that will be extremely difficult to replicate.

Fernandes broke the Premier League record for assists in a single season, registering his 21st and final assist of the campaign against Brighton on the final day.

Pre-season has been slightly more frustrating.

Fernandes missed from the spot during the penalty shootout victory over Leeds United before also failing to convert a penalty in the 4-2 defeat to AC Milan.

Despite those recent setbacks, Manchester United have made it clear that their captain remains central to their plans heading into the new campaign.

According to BBC Sport, senior figures at Old Trafford intend to reject any offer for Fernandes before the transfer window closes.

Galatasaray have been considering a move for the 31-year-old and were believed to be preparing a proposal that could eventually reach €50 million (£42.7m).

However, United’s position is that Fernandes is not for sale at any price, meaning an approach of that size would have no chance of changing their stance.

Juventus and AC Milan have also been considering whether to test United’s resolve, although no formal bids have arrived so far.

The situation represents a significant change from last summer, when Fernandes was essentially allowed to make his own decision over a lucrative proposal from Saudi Arabia.

Fernandes has one year remaining on his current contract, while United also hold an option to extend it by a further season.

No agreement has yet been reached over a new deal, but the midfielder is understood to prefer remaining at Old Trafford as he prepares for another major role in the coming campaign.
