Manchester United cancel Ederson transfer

Manchester United’s proposed move for Atalanta midfielder Ederson has reportedly collapsed in a major transfer twist ahead of the 2026/27 season.

According to Fabrizio Romano on X, the deal is now considered OFF, with Manchester United informing Atalanta that they have changed their plans and will not be proceeding with the transfer.

Romano adds that Atalanta are fully confident Ederson is fit and will now welcome the Brazilian back into their squad for the new campaign.

The collapse comes after weeks of speculation linking the 27-year-old with a move to Old Trafford, with reports previously suggesting personal terms and a club-to-club agreement had been progressing.

Instead, United have now pulled out of the deal, ending one of the summer’s biggest transfer sagas.

United expected to move on to other targets

The update represents a dramatic turnaround after Manchester United had appeared to make significant progress in negotiations for the Brazilian midfielder.

In May, the Red Devils were understood to have reached an agreement with Atalanta after previously agreeing personal terms with Ederson.

The midfielder also underwent medical examinations as United assessed his fitness before making a final decision on the transfer.

However, Fabrizio Romano now reports that the deal has completely collapsed.

Manchester United have informed the Serie A side that they have changed their plans and will not be completing the move.

United’s attention is now expected to focus elsewhere in midfield.

An agreement worth around £50 million has already been reached with Chelsea for Andrey Santos.

The Brazilian is expected to be officially announced by the club soon after his shirt number was reportedly revealed.

The club have also continued reshaping Michael Carrick’s squad this summer, with experienced midfielder Casemiro departing Old Trafford following the expiry of his contract, creating further room for changes in the middle of the pitch.
