Manchester United have completed a second signing from rivals Manchester City today as their aggressive recruitment drive continues.
The two clubs share one of English football’s fiercest rivalries, both on and off the pitch.
That rivalry was on full display when Michael Carrick began his second interim spell with a 2-0 derby win at Old Trafford.
Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring before Patrick Dorgu doubled United’s advantage in the second half.
The result gave Carrick a dream return and handed United the bragging rights over Pep Guardiola’s side.
Now, the battle between the clubs has moved away from the first team and into academy recruitment.
United have spent recent years targeting some of the best young players in England, with INEOS keen to strengthen the pathway at Carrington.
That approach has already led to several highly-rated prospects joining the club.
However, their latest business carries extra significance because it involves two players moving directly across Manchester.
Reliable academy MUFC_Youth reported on X that United have completed the signings of Karim Cassim and David Eze from City.
United had already secured Eze earlier today before completing the second deal for Cassim.
Both players are 16-year-old midfielders who have represented England at youth level.
Eze is a defensive midfielder who has captained England Under-16s and also holds an Irish passport.
He previously visited Carrington with his family before agreeing to continue his development at United.
Cassim can operate as either a number six or a number eight.
He broke into City’s Under-18 side last season and scored three goals from midfield.
The teenager has also featured for England Under-17s, highlighting the level at which he is already competing.
The double signing represents another statement from United’s academy department.
Both players will now make the short journey across the city and join one of the country’s most famous youth systems.
