Manchester United go into the year 2026 with plenty of hope of a better year after a difficult 2025.

A 15th place finish and a UEFA Europa League final defeat was a low end to the 2024/25 campaign.

Things have improved in 2025/26 and the club currently reside in sixth place in the Premier League table, just three points off fourth place Liverpool.

This is despite a disappointing December that saw two wins, three draws and one defeat.

There has also been some encouragement for the Women’s team, who did not lose a league game this season until November.

However, they have won just one of their last four league games, a 2-1 win over West Ham United.

A 1-0 win against Juventus last time out in the Champions League group stage will give them confidence of a turned corner after just three wins in their past eight games in all competitions.

They have also confirmed news that will be welcomed by the fanbase regarding some of their key players.

The Guardian’s Women’s Football writer Tom Garry reported on X that United have decided to extend the contracts of four of their female players’ contracts.

Ella Toone, Elisabeth Terland, Lisa Naalsund and Gabby George have all extended their contracts at the club until 2027.

This will be news that excites the club’s fanbase, with the four players combining for 35 appearances between them this season in the Women’s Super League.

Their next game sees them come up against Arsenal away from home in the Women’s Super League on January 10th, before another away game against Aston Villa.
