Manchester United goalkeeper drawing interest from Turkey

Andre Onana's future with Manchester United appears to be on shaky ground. The Cameroon international has struggled with form and playing time to begin the season. To make matters worse, Onana has already made some high-profile mistakes in goal for United.

On September 1, United signed Senne Lammens, who is expected to become the team's new No. 1. United now has four goalkeepers in its squad, with Lammens, Onana, Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton.

According to ESPN's Rob Dawson, that logjam could quickly be resolved, as Turkish club Galatasaray has shown interest in signing Onana. Galatasaray missed out on Ederson, who joined Fenerbahce from Manchester City on Monday.

Unlike the English Premier League, Turkish clubs are still able to sign players. Their transfer window remains open until September 12. Therefore, a potential deal for Onana could still be on the cards, especially if Ruben Amorim has lost faith in the former Inter and Ajax stopper.

Onana has spent two seasons with United, conceding 102 goals in 72 Premier League appearances, resulting in 1.29 goals allowed per 90 minutes. Onana also has a save rate of just 71.9 percent — lower than the 80.3 percent save rate that the previous United target Emiliano Martinez boasts in the Premier League, and lower than the 80.1 percent save rate that Lammens boasted in Belgium.

Lammens is undoubtedly a developmental talent. He's only 23 years old. Still, he should easily slide into Amorim's plans as part of the current overhaul of the team. If Onana isn't going to get consistent playing time, moving to Turkey could be a wise move.

Furthermore, United will likely be open to making the sale as it continues to claw back some of its expenditure from this summer. If an offer comes in from Galatasaray, everyone involved in the deal would be wise to give the move some consideration. After all, on paper, moving clubs is the most logical decision for both Onana and United.
