Manchester United goalkeeper makes debut against Leicester City

Manchester United have continued to reshape their goalkeeping department ahead of the new season.

Senne Lammens remains the club’s first-choice goalkeeper after establishing himself between the posts last season.

United have also added experienced goalkeeper Karl Darlow from Leeds United to provide competition and depth behind the Belgian.

Meanwhile, Altay Bayindir has moved on after United agreed a loan switch to Celta Vigo, while Andre Onana has returned to Trabzonspor on another season-long loan.

That has opened the door for United’s younger goalkeepers to make their mark as the women’s side also begin a new era under Eva Olid.

And one teenage goalkeeper has already made her first-team debut, with Evie Mitchell featuring for Manchester United Women in their opening pre-season game, as United reported on their website.

The 16-year-old was introduced in the second half of United’s behind-closed-doors meeting with Leicester City, replacing Safia Middleton-Patel in the 60th minute.

It was a memorable moment for Evie Mitchell, who has risen through United’s Under-18 setup and has also represented England at Under-17 level.

The youngster signed with Complete Sports Group in March as she continues to build her career both on and off the pitch.

Her debut came during United’s first outing of the 2026/27 campaign and the first match of the Eva Olid era.

The game, played over two 40-minute halves at Leicester’s Belvoir Drive training facility, ended 1-1.

United initially fell behind when Asmita Ale found the net midway through the opening half, but Olid’s side responded late on as Elisabeth Terland produced a composed finish three minutes from full time to secure the draw.

For Mitchell, though, the biggest takeaway will undoubtedly be those minutes on the pitch, an early glimpse of another young goalkeeper hoping to follow the pathway towards senior football at United.
