Manchester United’s summer rebuild is gathering pace as the club prepares for a return to the Champions League next season after Michael Carrick guided a strong end-of-season push that secured European qualification and restored momentum at Old Trafford.

Recruitment planning has already intensified as United look to reshape key areas of the squad with a stronger focus on long-term talent.

The club are expected to prioritise young, high-upside profiles in the market as part of a wider structural refresh across the team.

Several internal discussions have already taken place regarding targets across England’s top flights.

One of the names firmly under consideration is Leicester City teenager Jeremy Monga, with Manchester United tracking the highly rated winger as interest across the Premier League continues to grow.

Leicester City’s situation has dramatically shifted after the club were officially relegated following a turbulent period that began with their drop from the Premier League in 2025, before a points deduction and a difficult Championship campaign ultimately resulted in further relegation to EFL League One.

That collapse has forced the club into a position where player sales are expected as they attempt to stabilise financially.

As a result, several of their most promising talents are now being considered available.

This has opened the door for top-flight clubs to move early.

Manchester United holds talks with Leicester City

United have already held talks with Leicester regarding a possible deal for Jeremy Monga, with early conversations focused on understanding the conditions of a potential transfer rather than formal negotiations.

However, Arsenal are also strongly positioned in the race, with competition expected to intensify if a bidding battle develops.

Monga’s reputation has been building rapidly, with the teenager widely regarded as one of the most exciting attacking prospects in English football.

He made history by becoming the second-youngest player ever to feature in the Premier League against Newcastle United at just 15 years and 271 days old.

He later added another milestone by becoming Leicester’s youngest-ever starter in a Carabao Cup tie against Huddersfield Town.

Across the season, he made 30 senior appearances, scoring once and registering two assists while continuing his development against experienced opposition.

Still only 16 and turning 17 in July, Monga has been part of Leicester’s academy system since Under-9 level, steadily progressing through the ranks before breaking into the senior squad.

Leicester are believed to value him at around £15 million as interest continues to build across England.

For Manchester United, the pursuit reflects a wider strategy of identifying elite young talent early, even if the competition from rival clubs makes any move far from straightforward.
