Manchester United’s goalkeeper unit has undergone significant change as the club aimed to improved its squad even further.
Having signed goalkeeper Senne Lammens last summer from Royal Antwerp, the club have been re-adjusting those below him in the pecking order.
Tom Heaton signed a new contract with the club, running until 2027, just after the season ended, extending his stay at Old Trafford for at least another year.
Andre Onana has gone back out on loan to Trabzonspor, on the other hand, whilst shot-stoppers Radek Vitek and Altay Bayindir have also departed United.
Kit Margetson signed for the club from Swansea City, meanwhile, and is likely to be incorporated into United’s academy during the coming campaign.
Now, it looks like Manchester United have missed out on the signing of Orlando Gill with journalist César Luis Merlo reporting that Lille have agreed a deal to sign the goalkeeper.
Gill, of San Lorenzo, made his name in this summer’s World Cup against Germany in the Round of 32, where he saved two penalties to put his side through to the Round of 16.
Reports following the World Cup suggested that Manchester United had made contact to sign the goalkeeper, with some even suggesting that The Red Devils had submitted a bid.
Those reports appeared to be true when Gill’s agent confirmed that United had made enquiries, although a move never officially formulated.
Orlando Gill is not the only transfer target that Manchester United have missed out on this summer, with Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali both joining Tottenham Hotspur whilst Elliot Anderson signed for Manchester City.
With Senne Lammens and Karl Darlow as United’s two primary goalkeeping options currently, it also does not look like the club will target a shot-stopper in the closing weeks of the window.
