Jhon Lucumi remains firmly on Manchester United’s radar as Michael Carrick continues shaping his squad ahead of the new Premier League season.
After already completing the signings of Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, Karl Darlow, Kit Margetson and Tynan Thompson, United are now focusing on adding further quality in key areas, with a third midfielder still viewed as a priority alongside potential defensive reinforcements.
The Red Devils have been monitoring Lucumi for several weeks.
Earlier this summer, United emerged as rivals to Juventus for the Colombian international, with Bologna open to selling should the right offer arrive.
Now, fresh reports from Italy suggest the race for the left-footed centre-back has intensified even further.
According to Quotidiano Sportivo, Manchester United have renewed contact over a deal for Bologna defender Jhon Lucumi as competition for his signature continues to grow.
The report claims Juventus remain interested despite seeing previous bids rejected, while Chelsea have now entered the picture after exploring defensive options.
Nottingham Forest are also said to have made an offer worth €20 million plus €5 million in bonuses.
However, the Italian outlet states that Manchester United have also made a fresh move for the defender, further complicating Juventus’ pursuit.
Lucumi has established himself as one of Serie A’s most consistent central defenders since joining Bologna from Belgian side Genk in 2022.
The Colombian international has made more than 150 appearances for the Italian club, helping them lift the Coppa Italia while also becoming a regular starter for his national team.
The 28-year-old is naturally left-footed, stands at 1.87 metres and is comfortable defending in a high line, qualities that have made him attractive to several Premier League clubs.
Manchester United’s interest is understandable given the uncertainty surrounding parts of their defensive unit.
Matthijs de Ligt continues his recovery from back surgery, while the club are also planning for the long term despite Harry Maguire signing a new contract earlier this year.
Whether United decide to submit a formal offer remains to be seen, but reports from Italy suggest Carrick’s side remain firmly involved as the battle for Lucumi’s signature gathers pace.
