The 2026 summer transfer window is approaching, and Manchester United have made a decision on one of their transfer targets.
The Red Devils have had tabs over RB Leipzig wonderkid Yan Diomande for some time, whom they had significant interest in during the last transfer window, but a move was never likely at the time.
A report in December 2025 revealed United would be looking to pursue the Ivory Coast international in the summer transfer window, which is now under a month away.
The transfer window for Premier League clubs opens on June 15, meaning Manchester United will have time to pursue their target – but the club will not be forced into paying a hefty fee for Diomande.
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, RB Leipzig are seeking in excess of €100 million (£87.23m) to make a transfer for the Liverpool, PSG, Manchester City and Manchester United target happen.
But Manchester United have already informed people close to Yan Diomande that they will not pay €100m for him because their main investment this summer will be made in midfield, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Yan Diomande joined RB Leipzig at the start of the 2025/26 season and has really burst onto the scene, with 22 goal involvements in 36 games.
United always saw Diomande as their backup option to Antoine Semenyo, whom they could not rival Manchester City for because of the club’s new strict wage structure.
As the summer approaches, their target is now wanted by other elite clubs, making a potential signing hard to manoeuvre, and only giving RB Leipzig the opportunity to oversee a bidding war.
While UEFA Champions League qualification has strengthened Manchester United’s ability to compete in the market and spend on their transfer targets, they’ll be looking to avoid rash decisions similar to the ones that got them into such a mess under Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim.
Diomande is a magnificent player, who can play on both sides of the attack and beat any full-back in world football, but United are righteously taking a sensible approach towards a deal for the wonderkid.
