Manchester United make enquiry to sign Aurelien Tchouameni

Manchester United have made an enquiry to sign Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni.

According to Samuel Luckhurst on X, United are not deterred by reports that the France international has agreed a contract extension with Real Madrid, with no official announcement having been made.

Luckhurst also adds that Jose Mourinho had planned to keep Tchouameni, although Rodri’s links with Real Madrid have intensified since Spain won the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Tchouameni has remained on United’s radar throughout the summer as Michael Carrick looks to complete his midfield rebuild.

The club have already secured Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, but they are still working on a third addition in that area.

United have considered several options, including Roma midfielder Manu Kone.

However, their latest enquiry shows that Tchouameni remains a serious target if an opportunity develops.

The 26-year-old has long been admired at Old Trafford because of his defensive strength, physical presence and composure in possession.

United previously made an initial approach on the player’s side in May as they explored the possibility of bringing him to the Premier League.

That interest appeared to suffer a major setback earlier this month.

Reports claimed Tchouameni had reached an agreement with Real Madrid over a new contract, which would have effectively ended immediate speculation over his future.

However, Real Madrid have not formally announced an extension.

United therefore appear unwilling to walk away while uncertainty remains.

Tchouameni joined Real Madrid from Monaco in 2022 and has since established himself as one of Europe’s leading defensive midfielders.

Jose Mourinho had reportedly planned to keep the France international as an important part of his squad.

However, Real Madrid’s interest in Rodri has intensified since Spain won the 2026 World Cup.

That situation could influence Tchouameni’s role and potentially open the door to a surprise departure.

United have already missed out on several midfield targets this summer, but the arrivals of Santos and Tielemans have strengthened Carrick’s options.

Adding Tchouameni would represent a major statement and could give United the control and defensive protection they want at the base of midfield.

For now, the enquiry remains at an early stage, and Real Madrid have not indicated that they want to sell.

Nevertheless, United are continuing to monitor the situation as they search for their third midfield signing.
