Manchester United’s weekend has been plagued by injuries despite the squads having minimal stays in the Carrington treatment room so far.

In preparation for their clash with Aston Villa, Kobbie Mainoo was ruled out of the trip to Villa Park due to a calf injury, whilst disaster struck in the first half of the game.

Club captain Bruno Fernandes pulled up short in the first half against Aston Villa, clutching his right leg before being replaced at half-time.

Now, it’s understood that he’s out of action for about a month, however news of another midfielder’s injury has now come through.

Ella Toone unfortunately came off early in Manchester United Women’s League Cup Quarter-Final against Tottenham Hotspur, being replaced by Lisa Naalsund in the 62nd minute.

Now, Manchester United have taken to their official website to confirm that she’s suffering a hamstring issue.

Talking about the issue, Marc Skinner commented: “There’s a little sensitivity in the hamstring area, so it is right to come off at that point.”

He continued: “She’ll obviously wait, address, see where she is. She has a little break now to rest and recuperate with the family, so we’ll assess from there.

“There’s sensitivity in her hamstring, so we’ll assess as it settles down over the next few days.”

The injury is a blow for Skinner’s side, with Toone having recorded the most assists of the squad with eight in 22 games this season, whilst also scoring three herself.

As such, the United women will be hoping she’ll bounce back, having three weeks off over Christmas to recover.

The next game back for Toone to aim for is the 10th January trip to London where they’ll take on Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in the Women’s Super League.
