Manchester United continue to go through a period of transition, with long-serving players leaving as the club looks ahead to the next cycle of competition.
That evolution has been visible across multiple departments at Old Trafford in recent seasons, with emphasis placed on refreshing the squad while still maintaining continuity from key figures within the setup.
A major figure at the club is now set to depart, with Casemiro confirming he will be heading for an exit.
Change has also been a theme on the women’s side, where the club has steadily built on its early foundations since turning professional, developing into one of the more established sides in English football.
Now, one of those foundational figures, Leah Galton, will officially leave Manchester United Women this summer when her contract expires, bringing an eight-year spell at the club to an end, as the club announced on their website.
Leah Galton joined in 2018 as part of United Women’s first professional squad and quickly became an important attacking presence as the team began its rise through the English football pyramid.
She played a key role in their second-tier title win in 2018/19 and went on to establish herself as one of the most consistent forwards in the squad as they stepped into the Women’s Super League.
Over time, she became a record-holder for the club in the league, finishing as United Women’s all-time top scorer in the WSL with 35 goals.
Her influence was particularly strong in the 2022/23 season, where she reached double figures in the league and helped United achieve their highest-ever WSL finish and points total at that stage.
She also featured in a landmark moment for the club, playing a role in their first major trophy win in the Women’s FA Cup, famously continuing despite suffering a fractured tibia early in the final against Tottenham Hotspur.
More recently, Galton was part of the squad that competed in United’s first UEFA Women’s Champions League league-phase campaign, adding European experience to her long list of milestones.
However, her final season has been heavily impacted by injury, with a lingering back issue limiting her to just four appearances in 2026 and preventing her from completing a full match so far.
She had hoped to return earlier in the year but setbacks delayed her comeback.
As she prepares to close this chapter, Galton leaves behind a lasting legacy as one of the players who helped shape Manchester United Women from the very beginning.
