Manchester United officially sign 3 players during 2026/27 season

Manchester United’s summer transfer business dominated headlines from the moment the window opened back in June.

Michael Carrick rebuilt his midfield with the signings of Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Carlos Baleba.

Elsewhere, Joshua Zirkzee’s future dragged on right up until deadline day itself, with United ultimately opting to keep him despite interest from Juventus and a late loan approach from Everton.

Further down the club’s hierarchy, plenty of quieter business has also been taking place away from the first-team headlines.

United’s academy staff have continued working to tie down some of Carrington’s most promising young talent throughout the window.

Three Manchester United academy players have now signed professional contracts with the club.

Goalkeeper Fred Heath and defender Dante Plunkett have put pen to paper on their first professional deals, while fellow goalkeeper Will Murdock has signed his second professional contract at the club, as United announced on their website.

Heath, born in Shrewsbury, has steadily risen through United’s youth ranks over the past few seasons and was part of the senior group that travelled to Ireland for pre-season training.

Murdock, meanwhile, joined the academy from outside the traditional pathway back in 2023 and quickly established himself as first-choice goalkeeper for United’s FA Youth Cup squad the following season, even earning a place among the substitutes for the fifth-round tie against Fulham.

Despite being born in Yorkshire, Murdock is actually registered to represent Northern Ireland at international level, adding an interesting dimension to his development as he continues progressing through United’s system.

Dante Plunkett arrived at Carrington from Aston Villa’s youth setup and made 12 appearances for United’s Under-18s during the 2025/26 season.

The 18-year-old received a notable boost to his season when he earned his first international call-up to the Jamaica squad, featuring in the Unity Cup final against Nigeria earlier this year.

Both Heath and Murdock have already progressed into United’s Under-21 squad, putting them a step closer to first-team contention than many of their academy contemporaries.

A club statement read, “Congratulations to Fred, Will and Dante and we look forward to continuing to track your progress.”

United’s academy has continued to produce a steady stream of professional signings this year, even as the first-team picture has understandably taken priority throughout the summer.

Securing all three players on fresh terms offers a level of certainty over their futures, regardless of how quickly any of them progress towards senior involvement.
