Post-Christmas, Manchester United Football Club are looking to have a go at making it a strong 2025/26 campaign.
It started well last night with a 1-0 win at Old Trafford over Newcastle United.
Patrick Dorgu scored a stunner as The Red Devils hung on to secure an important three points.
That win temporarily took Ruben Amorim’s side into fifth place in the English Premier League table.
United fans will be hoping that the club can continue the positive mood by picking up another three points at home against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday.
If the team were able to do that, then they’d be entering the new year with a renewed sense of optimism.
2026 isn’t only going to be about what happens on the pitch.
Just as important will be the transfer dealings that happen off the pitch.
Manchester United have often been criticised for their poor transfer business over the past few years.
Things look like changing with the new ownership as there appears to be a move away from overpaying for stars and being smarter with their deals.
One example is the summer 2026 arrival of Cristian Orozco.
Orozco confirmed to Colombia news that he’s going to be joining Manchester United in June 2026 in a move that shows the club are looking at a different model for their transfer business.
And news just confirmed today shows another example of that.
Manchester United have officially confirmed the signing of Sweden full-back Hanna Lundkvist on a free transfer.
The 23-year-old will join on January 1st 2026 pending international clearance.
Lundkvist will be signing a contract that will run until the summer of 2029.
For those unaware, Hanna Lundkvist has played for the likes of AIK, Atletico Madrid and most recently San Diego Wave in the United States of America.
The signing of Lundkvist isn’t news to followers of this site, as CentreDevils exclusively revealed that the defender had completed a medical in Manchester earlier this month.
Speaking to the official website, the full-back couldn’t hide her delight at signing for the club.
“I am really excited to be here; Manchester United is a club with an amazing history.
“You can feel how much they have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.
“Speaking with Marc [Skinner] and the coaches confirmed all of the great things I have heard about the culture of the team here.
“I cannot wait to get started and help the group to achieve more success”.
Hanna Lundkvist will be joining the club on a free transfer after the expiry of her contract with San Diego Wave.
During her time in the USA, she made 49 NWSL appearances across her two years.
She has also been capped 17 times by Sweden and started every game at the 2025 UEFA Women’s European Championship.
Welcome to United, Hanna Lundkvist.
