Manchester United are entering a decisive phase of the transfer window, aiming to offload surplus players while strengthening key areas of the squad. In this context, Jadon Sancho’s future increasingly appears to lie away from Old Trafford. The English winger has been out of the first-team picture since his fallout with former manager Erik ten Hag and has spent months training separately. While his departure has long seemed inevitable, it now appears imminent, driven by the club’s need to reduce the wage bill and comply with financial regulations. Sancho has become a priority exit.
United can no longer postpone a resolution to Sancho’s situation. According to Italian journalist Marco Giordano via X, the 25-year-old could undergo a medical later this week ahead of a move to Juventus. His agent, Emeka Obasi, is reportedly already in Turin to finalise the remaining details. Manchester United are said to have accepted a €15 million offer and may even pay a portion of Sancho’s compensation to complete the deal, an indication of the club’s urgency to resolve what has become a delicate issue.
Sancho’s likely departure to Turin marks a significant turning point for United. While the club will take a considerable financial hit on the £73 million invested in 2021, offloading his £250,000-a-week salary offers much-needed financial relief amid current spending restrictions.
From a tactical standpoint, Sancho is not a natural fit for Rúben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system. The Portuguese coach favours versatility, high pressing, and aggression off the ball, traits that do not align with Sancho’s more traditional winger profile. His exit, though painful financially, could ultimately serve the interests of both the club and the player, allowing United to move forward with clarity and purpose.
For that reason, Sancho’s departure does not disrupt the tactical structure that Rúben Amorim is expected to implement in the 2025/26 season. The club should now prioritise players whose profiles better suit Amorim’s system such as Bryan Mbeumo, a more direct and versatile option who is already on United’s radar.
In addition, midfield depth remains a pressing concern. A potential swap deal involving Douglas Luiz could significantly strengthen the centre of the pitch alongside Bruno Fernandes. With the financial relief from Sancho’s exit, investing in a proven striker like Ollie Watkins would be a logical next step. Amorim’s high-intensity style demands players who are not just talented but also tactically disciplined and physically committed.
Sancho will be remembered as a player who arrived at Old Trafford with immense promise, but ultimately, was unable to showcase his full potential at the Theatre of Dreams.
