Tyrel Malacia set to return to Manchester United training following recent snub

There was a lot of speculation surrounding Tyrell Malacia in the recently concluded summer transfer window. He was part of the players that were surplus at Carrington and the ones that the chiefs at M16 were desperate to sell along the window.

Manchester Reds full-back Tyrell Malacia was closing in on an exit, with Turkish club Eyupspor ready to attain his signature on a loan deal for the 2025/26 campaign. But when push came to shove, no move materialised, and he ended up staying put at United.

The Dutch left back was not integrated into the first team squad, though. He had been training with the academy side, where he had been blowing people away with his hard work and determination. We have seen Ruben Amorim being ruthless on countless occasions in his short time at M16, and it was ruthlessness in the treatment of Tyrell Malacia that left many inside the club raising eyebrows.

Malacia reintegrated at M16

United have been quite thin when it comes to options in that left-back role (or shall I say left wing-back role). Luke Shaw has been slotting in as the left centre back in the back three. Leaving only Dorgu as the left full-back. And let’s be honest, Dorgu has been having underwhelming performances at M16. And this has led many supporters to wonder whether Amorim will change his mind about Malacia.

But it does look like the Portuguese head coach has come around. The latest report by The Independent indicates that Amorim is ready to bring back Malacia into the first-team training setup after his exile.

WAFU Opinion

Bringing back Malacia looks quite logical. This is not a dramatic shift of strategy that the media will make it out to be, but this is more like putting the squad’s needs first. And right now United do need someone like him on that left channel. If he does come through to full fitness, Malacia can have a fair opportunity to rejuvenate his time at Old Trafford. He will have his contract due at Old Trafford in 2026, so this does look like a final opportunity for the 26-year-old to make something out of his time at M16.

Now he is not a you-fix-it-all player, but given the current situation, the Dutchman is surely an experiment which will be worthwhile.
