Following the first international break of the new campaign, Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United return to action with a Manchester Derby against Manchester City at Etihad Stadium this Sunday (4.30PM Kick Off). The Red Devils have had a mixed start to the season, with a win, draw and a loss in their opening three games. Here is the Manchester United predicted lineup for the Derby clash.
As per the manager’s philosophy, the Red Devils continue to line up in the hotly debated 3-4-2-1 formation this season. Altay Bayindir has become Amorim’s number one following the departure of André Onana on loan to Trabzonspor.
The defence has been settled of late, with Lény Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt making up the back three, with two of Diogo Dalot, Amad Diallo and Patrick Dorgu occupying the wing-back berths.
Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes have made up the midfield pair, with Bryan Mbuemo and Matheus Cunha as the two number 10’s behind false nine Mason Mount.
It has been a mixed start to the season for Manchester United, with an opening day loss to Arsenal followed by a draw with Fulham and a win at home to Burnley. Despite the mixed bag in terms of results, Amorim’s side are creating more chances and even topped the Premier League expected goals (xG) table going into the international break. The main issues have been in midfield, with Casemiro’s lack of mobility and Bruno Fernandes’ lack of familiarity with the role and tactical indiscipline leaving the defence exposed.
Mount, Dalot and Cunha are all out for the Manchester Derby, with the duration of their unavailability as yet unkown. Lisandro Martinez is expected to be back around the end of October.
