Manchester United receive big Marcus Rashford setback

Marcus Rashford’s move from Manchester United to Barcelona last summer marked a major turning point in his career, both on and off the pitch.

After struggling for consistency and confidence under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford, the 28-year-old England international opted for a fresh start in Spain, joining Barcelona on a one-year loan deal.

The transfer included an option-to-buy clause, allowing the Catalan giants to sign him permanently at the end of the season.

Rashford took a significant wage reduction to facilitate the move, determined to revive his form and rediscover his love for football after a difficult final season in Manchester.

The English forward has rediscovered his form under Hansi Flick, showing pace, composure, and confidence.

Also contributing key performances, including an assist in El Clásico and a Champions League brace against Olympiacos.

Raphinha’s injury troubles have opened the door for Rashford to establish himself as Barcelona’s first-choice left winger.

His resurgence has led to discussions within the club about triggering his option-to-buy clause, while his return to form has also earned him a recall to the England national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Barcelona sporting director Deco has confirmed that the club will not activate Marcus Rashford’s buy option before next summer, instead outlining a different approach for the January transfer window, according to Goal.

Deco ruled out completing the deal in January, citing the club’s ongoing financial limitations, and explained during a public training session at Camp Nou: “If we are doing well and there are no surprises, I don’t think it’s necessary. We know exactly where we can improve and the difficulties we face.”

He added, “When we lower the intensity, we suffer. We need the best players, but there are no excuses. Injuries have affected our midfield, and even when we win, there are things to improve.”

After scoring in Barcelona’s 3-1 win over Elche, Rashford expressed his satisfaction but admitted he could still improve, saying, “I try to give my best. I could have done better against Elche, and I promise to improve, but I’m happy with my performance.”

Rashford added that the team must stay united, saying, “This is Barca, and the demands are always high. We must play as one team and show fighting spirit and unity.”

Manager Hansi Flick praised Rashford’s impact, stating, “When you see the chances he has, one or two more goals would be good for him. But we can be happy with him. He’s a very important player for the club, for the fans, and for his teammates.”
