Manchester United are playing with fire — and they might get burned.
According to a report from The Standard’s Sam Tabuteau, Bryan Mbeumo is growing increasingly frustrated with the lack of progress on a move to Old Trafford. Brentford, too, have become agitated with the stalled negotiations, as United hesitate over whether to launch a third formal bid for the player.
This is not some second-tier transfer target we’re talking about. Mbeumo is the guy for United right now — their top priority in attack. And yet, despite leading the race for weeks, the club seem intent on dragging this out until they either overpay or get beaten to the punch by someone more decisive.
Forget the smoke and mirrors. Despite the endless rumors about Nico Williams and even Rodrygo, Bryan Mbeumo is the real name at the top of United’s shortlist. He’s the most realistic, attainable, and tactically perfect right winger on the market.
Tottenham cooled their interest. Thomas Frank, Mbeumo’s long-time manager, isn’t pushing to bring him to his new club. That left the door wide open for Manchester United to walk in and take the best player on a mid-table Premier League team — and yet they’re stalling.
It’s baffling. Mbeumo is a 20-goal wide forward with elite pressing numbers, two-footed finishing, and a proven record in the Premier League. He can transform this United attack, offering the exact end product and consistency that Antony has failed to deliver.
He’s tailor-made for the inverted right winger role that United desperately need filled. And still, no deal.
You can understand why Mbeumo is growing irritated. At 25, he’s ready to make the leap to a top club, and he sees United as the right next step. He’s already been incredibly loyal to Brentford, staying on even after Ivan Toney’s ban made him the focal point of the team.
Now that he’s ready for a move, United’s indecision is wasting everyone’s time — including his.
And it’s not just Mbeumo who’s frustrated. Brentford have also had enough, per Tabuteau’s report. They were expecting a third bid by now, and they’re not going to wait forever. With their summer plans partially hinging on the income from this potential transfer, United’s sluggishness is doing real damage.
There are few sure things in the market this summer. Mbeumo is one of them. He’s proven, Premier League ready, and already wants the move. United have a clear runway to close the deal.
Dragging their feet now only risks losing the player, frustrating Erik ten Hag, and angering a fanbase that’s grown tired of the same old transfer cycle: interest, leaks, delays, failure.
If Manchester United are serious about rebuilding the right wing and elevating their attack into the modern era, this is the time to prove it. It’s time to get Bryan Mbeumo through the door. No more delays.
