Manchester United are heading into the season opener against Arsenal with a nearly full squad, with just a couple of players missing through injury.
Benjamin Sesko’s first full training session with Manchester United came alongside the return of both Joshua Zirkzee and Andre Onana, giving Erik ten Hag an extra boost ahead of the match.
Lisandro Martinez is still out, and there is also one other notable absence from the squad. Noussair Mazraoui has not played at all during pre-season and remains unavailable.
Noussair Mazraoui has not featured for Manchester United during US pre-season, though he has stayed with the squad throughout their preparations.
According to Premier Injuries, the Moroccan is dealing with a hamstring strain. United appear to be handling his recovery carefully, not rushing him back too soon.
He could return to training this week. However, the defender is unlikely to feature in the opening fixture, even as a substitute.
This would be a change from last year, when he made his debut just days after joining from Bayern Munich and started against Fulham at Old Trafford
Despite concerns over his injury record at Bayern, Mazraoui featured heavily last season, making 57 appearances across all competitions for United, according to Sofascore.
His versatility saw him fill roles across the backline and even step into midfield at times under Erik ten Hag.
Now, with Ruben Amorim in charge, Mazraoui will have to work his way back into a side that has seen some changes during pre-season.
Amad has taken hold of the wing-back position, while Leny Yoro has been ever-present on the right side of defence during the summer matches.
Amorim is a known fan of Mazraoui and once called him ‘United’s future’, but right now it is difficult to see where he fits into the first-choice line-up.
The Moroccan will get his chances throughout the season – he is a reliable option when available – but he will need to prove himself again once fully fit.
