One of the most intriguing story of this summer was Jadon Sancho. Last year, he had a public quarrel with Erik ten Hag, and after that, his loan spell at Chelsea did not turn into a permanent deal. This time, the situation became more difficult after the arrival of Ruben Amorim. Sancho did not get a single minute in the first team and was completely out of the team.
Manchester United were clear from the beginning that they needed to get rid of Sancho, but the task was not so easy. Teams like Borussia Dortmund, Juventus and Roma were interested, but no one dared to accept his salary and transfer fee, and this proved to be the biggest obstacle. Eventually, on the last day of the transfer window, Aston Villa came forward and took him on a one-year loan, where the club is paying a large part of his salary. This was a relief move for United, even if it was not a permanent transfer.
According to a report by Football Insider, Manchester United are now planning to activate the extension clause in Sancho’s contract. This step is being taken so that the 25-year-old winger does not leave on a free transfer next year. The club had spent a huge amount on him, and now losing him without any return would be unacceptable. The report from Pete O’Rourke said that United want to protect themselves by adopting this option.
On the other hand, the most important thing for Sancho now is to play continuously and perform regularly at Aston Villa. If his performance improves like his Dortmund days, his value may increase again. This situation can be beneficial for both parties. United will benefit because the English winger’s market price will increase, and Villa or any other club may agree to buy him. At the same time, this is a big opportunity for Sancho to improve his image and prove that he is still capable of playing at the big level.
“United, just to protect themselves and their asset, will probably take up that option to extend Jadon Sancho’s contract. They want to ensure he doesn’t walk out on a free transfer next summer.
“The main thing for Sancho at the moment is to be playing football and playing regularly. The talent is there, there’s no doubt about that, so he’ll be looking to get back to his best. That situation would be good for everybody involved.
“It would be good for United because it would put him in the shop window and potentially increase his price tag ahead of next summer. “And it would be good for Sancho to be back playing at a high level.”
United’s decision to extend Sancho’s contract until 2027 is absolutely correct. The club had to protect their investment. If he had left for free next year, we would have gained nothing. Now, at least we have another year to either sell him and get some money back or, miraculously, Amorim could make up his mind to bring him back, but the truth is that United want Villa to buy him permanently. This loan is being seen as a shop window where Sancho can showcase his skills.
The problem is that Villa did not add a buy clause in the loan deal, which clearly shows that they are not completely confident. Perhaps the reason for this is his unstable form and high salary. Chelsea also did not show interest in a permanent deal after a loan last time, so this path does not look easy. Villa will only make a move if Sancho performs consistently well. This is his last big chance.
Meanwhile, United have been busy on the other side as well. The club had approached Atletico Madrid for Conor Gallagher, but the Spanish club promptly rejected any talks. This shows how much trouble we are facing in the transfer market. Rio Ferdinand, on his YouTube channel, expressed concern that if Sancho’s third consecutive loan does not turn into a permanent deal, he will return to Old Trafford and the same old problems will arise.
This whole matter is both painful and a little hopeful. If Sancho plays well at Villa, United may finally get the relief we have been looking for, but if this attempt fails, we will be in the same dilemma again next season, and this will not be a pleasant situation for any fan. However, we have to renew his contract for one year at least to have a chance of getting at least something from his sale, but then again, it will be frustrating to see him return to Old Trafford yet again after the loan deal to Villa.
