Alejandro Garnacho has turned down a stunning opportunity to join Cristiano Ronaldo at Al Nassr, according to The Daily Telegraph’s Mike McGrath.
While initial talks were held between the player’s camp and the Saudi club—who are building another star-studded title challenge in the SPL—Garnacho has made it clear: he’s staying in Europe.
This rejection isn’t just a statement about Saudi Arabia’s pull. It’s a telling window into Garnacho’s mindset as his Manchester United future hangs in limbo, his Napoli move stalls, and his standing within Rúben Amorim’s project continues to deteriorate.
Garnacho is one of the most exciting young attackers in Europe on paper—but his inconsistency has been a major problem.
The 21-year-old winger dazzles in moments with pace, flair, and a knack for the spectacular (who could forget that bicycle kick?), but he often fades in and out of games and struggles with tactical discipline.
And that doesn’t sit well with Rúben Amorim, who has already started reshaping Manchester United’s attacking hierarchy. Garnacho is reportedly outside Amorim’s looking glass, as the manager focuses on more dependable options who fit his fluid, high-pressing system.
Internally, Garnacho himself is said to want out, disillusioned by his diminishing role and unconvinced by the long-term direction at Old Trafford. He wants to play regularly, and for a team that believes in building around his explosive qualities.
For a while, that team looked to be Napoli, who saw Garnacho as the ideal replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia should the Georgian leave this summer. Garnacho’s speed and directness fit perfectly with Napoli’s vertical style of play. But negotiations have hit a wall.
Napoli are unwilling to meet Manchester United’s valuation, which sits above €50 million, and Garnacho’s wage demands are another sticking point. With the Serie A side prioritizing smarter, cost-controlled deals, this deal is now all but frozen.
That vacuum opened the door for Saudi interest—and Ronaldo.
Al Nassr saw an opening. With Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly personally involved in the approach, the pitch was compelling: Come win trophies with your idol, get the spotlight in an ambitious project, and cash in big.
It wasn’t just about the money—it was about being handed a starring role under the mentorship of one of the greatest to ever play the game.
But Garnacho has politely declined the offer, per McGrath. The Argentine winger doesn’t want to leave Europe—not yet.
Despite the uncertainty at Manchester United and the lack of concrete European offers on the table, he knows a move to Saudi Arabia at 21 years old could kill his top-level career before it ever really starts.
Even Cristiano Ronaldo’s shadow wasn’t enough to convince him otherwise.
As things stand, Garnacho remains a Manchester United player in name but not in plan. Napoli have cooled, Saudi Arabia are off the table, and Amorim doesn’t seem interested in reintegrating him.
And yet, with pre-season underway and United’s attack still in flux, don’t rule out a surprise twist. Garnacho has made it clear where he wants to be—but he still needs someone in Europe to truly want him.
