Manchester United will take the trip to St James’ Park for a midweek fixture against Newcastle United. Michael Carrick’s men continued their strong form at home to Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon, with Benjamin Sesko again on the scoresheet. Newcastle had a game to forget, losing to Everton in an extremely lacklustre performance, making it five losses in their last six performances.
We give you the latest Manchester United team news and a predicted lineup for the exciting Wednesday night clash.
Carrick has been consistent with his starting XI during his time at Old Trafford, however, having played on Sunday afternoon, he may freshen the side up with personnel changes.
Senne Lammens again had a good game against Palace. He wasn’t at fault for the goal and was the calming presence we’ve come to expect. Diogo Dalot, Lenny Yoro and Harry Maguire played the majority of the game together; however, there was a forced change at left back. Noussair Mazraoui replaced Luke Shaw after 24 minutes.
Although Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro haven’t been performing well in recent games, they have kept their places in the starting group, arguably due to a lack of viable competition. Bruno Fernandes had a fantastic game against Palace, recording a goal and an assist, highlighting why he is the heartbeat of the team.
Up front, Mattheus Cunha kept his place on the left-hand side, Bryan Mbuemo was moved out right, and Amad Diallo was replaced with the in-form Sesko.
On Tuesday, the manager provided us with the all-important Manchester United team news. After both Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw were taken off due to illness against Crystal Palace, Carrick has made the call to give them more time ahead of the Newcastle fixture. The manager stated: “It wasn’t injury, both weren’t feeling too good, so it’s one of those things really. We’ll see how they are”. Both men will be part of the travelling squad for the Newcastle game.
The coach didn’t provide an update on Matthijs de Ligt, Mason Mount, Patrick Dorgu or Lisandro Martinez, although the information may have been kept back for the embargoed section of the press conference. We can assume that they all remain out of action.
